Mr. Mafongosi holds the degrees of B. Proc, LL.B and is an admitted attorney of the high court.  He also attained the Certificate on Group Facilitation from the University of the Western Cape and Certificate on Project Management – Practical Applications and day-to-day realities from the University of Cape Town.  Mr. Mafongosi is currently working as one of the legal advisors with the National Credit Regulator. Mr. Mafongosi previously worked as the Advocacy Co-ordinator for the Black Sash Trust, Refugee Legal Counsellor/a Practicing Attorney with the University of Cape Town Legal Aid Clinic and as a case worker for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Sudan.

During his stay with the Black Sash, Mr. Mafongosi served in various structures as a consumer representative such as the Micro Finance Regulatory Council Board, the Public Finance and Monetary Chamber of NEDLAC, the Basic Income Grant Campaign Coalition and etc.

During his time as a student Mr Mafongosi has been the recipient of the following awards;

- The Sport Excellency Award on Service Administration - (University of the Western Cape - 1997).
- Leadership Award from the Director of the School for Legal   Practice - (University of Cape Town School for Legal Practice – 1999)
