THE EAAB WILL CONDUCT ITS DISCIPLINARY HEARINGS FOR ESTATE AGENTS VIA AN ONLINE VIRTUAL PLATFORM

THE EAAB WILL CONDUCT ITS DISCIPLINARY HEARINGS FOR ESTATE AGENTS VIA AN ONLINE VIRTUAL PLATFORM

Given the outbreak and continuous spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and its uncertainty, in South Africa and around the world, the EAAB is also deploying different measures to curtail and contain the spread of the virus.

The health and safety concerns, as well as travel restrictions imposed by Government regulations have significantly affected the manner in which the EAAB conducts disciplinary hearings and made it impossible, for the time being, to convene physical hearings in a single location.

One major impact that COVID-19 has had globally, is the increased reliance on technology by many businesses.

Out of necessity, in response to the unprecedented pandemic the EAAB is embracing changes and bringing disciplinary hearing processes into line with available technologies.  The use of technology for disciplinary hearings is now progressively becoming the new normal.

While it's unlikely that virtual hearings will completely replace the need to convene physical hearings in a single location, its ease of adoption and convenience can serve to enhance the EAAB’s mandate of protecting the consumer.
